jewish anti-zionism isn't a "privilege" by any reasonable definition, but some of us HAVE sacrificed fewer (or shallower) communal ties, unlearned hasbara more freely, etc. we should consider these differences when deciding if/how we engage our—and esp others'—jewish communities
like tho i was steeped in pro-israel jewish education in my formative years, my distrust, disrespect, and distaste for my childhood jewish communities (as early as adolescence) made it easier for me to question their zionism (along with their politics and practices generally)
also as a white ashkenazi person who grew up conservative/reform in the US, my decision to sacrifice some ties to zionist family and community, tho deeply sad, hasn't isolated me or jeopardized my safety as it has for many sephardi/mizrahi or more frum or non-US anti-zionist jews
or even just anti-zionist jews who come from/come to jewish communities they love, respect, and rely on for various reasons and in various ways! (to clarify, i am part of this group; it's just family, not any of my former institutions, that i feel this way about.)
for these groups of jews, anti-zionist identification and organizing can be harder and involve more material and psychological consequences than they do for others. we shouldn't lord this over each other or self-flagellate about it, but it should inform how we educate/persuade
people like me should be sensitive and humble when challenging the zionism of jews who will face more repercussions for eventual anti-zionism than we have. often, it's more effective and less harmful to leave the convincing to a comrade from their community/of their background!
i'm not suggesting that we "let people off the hook" for being zionists — or that reform jews avoid engaging with haredim, or ashkenazim with mizrahim, etc. i'm suggesting that we consider who is the best messenger, what the best message is, and who is most likely to know it.
