cw: light-skinned privilege

I know so so many light-skinned or mixed folks who have spent their entire lives struggling w/ whether they should identify as POC (incl. me), and it just now occurred to me that actual white people probably don’t spend all their time (1/3)
cw: light-skinned privilege

...trying to parse whether or not they are white. So maybe, if you’ve spent years trying to figure out whether you’re brown enough to be brown, maybe you can just assume you’re not white? Idk just a thought! (2/3)
Obviously this is a completely different and much more privileged experience than many BIPOC folks have. I wish we had better language for that middle ground so we didn’t take up so much space in bipoc discourse (thus the content warnings). Also I’m open to being wrong. xoxo.
ps: I don’t know if I’m right about race but I’m definitely right about gender, so let me say that if you spend all of your time wondering whether you’re cis, or whether you’re trans enough to be trans.....

you’re definitely trans, congrats 🎉
Hi again! As Alex and other folks said in the replies, the most useful thing that light-skinned and white-passing folks can do is weaponize that white-adjacency to call shit out, advocate & pass the mic to other POC. It’s important & mandatory work for folks with our privileges. https://twitter.com/alexlaughs/status/1297963693637021699
