RT this to amplify, the international media needs to hear this : Please stop saying Nepal has laws for gender recognition of transgender folks & we are able to change our gender marker / names : NO THERE ARE NO SUCH LAWS IN NEPAL !
Can you for a while STOP this misinformation to spread please! Like there is no laws in Nepal to support change of gender markers and name. Yet without any citation, without any research people put it up as if we have the best provision for transgender people.
Birth Certificate & National ID Card Act, Citizenship Act, Regulations that govern educational certificates, none of them mentions anything about change of gender markers. And yes for names, they only allow trivial spelling mistakes, removal / addition of middle names, +
change of surname for divorced & widowed ! There is NOTHING else and all of these laws can be read in Law Commission Website, we still filed RTI (Right to Information Applications) to different government bodies to see if we missed out anything.
Well we didn't. Authorities concerning all these different government issues ID, and educational certificates have responded with a lack of any provision to support change of name & gender marker.
Look at us! Hear us! We are the lived experiences. We are the ones who have been denied of our applications to change name and/or gender. And what makes it that these facts & experiences do not count when to write your news?
The other thing is about the 2007 landmark and stuffs. That landmark had its own drawbacks & to be followed at #DrawBacksOf2007LandMark, but it only speaks for a third gender option. It does not address binary transmen & transwomen at all.
