Chapter 81 of one piece is still one of my favorite chapters of the series to this day. I want to touch on why it was so good and how it was odas first showcasing of top of the line character writing in this thread

To start, we learn some things through character interactions before the flashback namely

1. Nami does actually care shown by zoro
2. She's masterful at hiding it
3. She will do anything to keep the burden on her and keep others from being involved through ussops case

Later in the flash back we so clearly learn that after Bellmere died she didn't want ANYONE else to die no matter what. We as the reader know understand why she wants the burden to only be hers very well at this point

We now clearly know that nami

1. Doesn't want anyone to get hurt because they tried to help her
2. She's willing to be dishonest if it means others don't get hurt
3. She won't cry in front of others
4. She wants the burden to only be hers

This sets up later events

That sets up into the arlong betrayal where he has all of nami's money stolen. Now the villagers have had enough, they are ready to fight but again she only wants to save everyone.

So what does she do? She shows up with a smile saying its alright

Everyone in the village clearly expresses that they would rather die then hold Nami away from her dream.
The stakes are drawn now, we understand at this point that Nami has "failed" to protect everyone and now her biggest fear is going to happen

Now she finnaly snaps, her years of torture, betrayal and taking the weight of everything for 8 years has meant nothing. Luffy shows understanding they type that dweebs will tell you he never has

He lets her lash out yelling things she obviously doesn't mean, things she has never meant. At this point we understand so clearly to what lengths she has gone to take the burden apon herself, and luffy shows human understanding that sometimes someone needs to lash out

All of this so far makes this iconic moment hit us the readers so hard. She finnaly breaks and crys, and does what she refused to do for 8 long years. She asks for help

10/10 set up, build up and execution. A great use of letting the audience understand the emotion of the scene

Now luffy shows umderstanding again with this confident scream, exactly what nami needed to hear. She confided towards him and he confidently saysbits okay
Combined with giving her his hat, his treasure that he said to never touch, showing she is just as important and trustworthy

I want to be clear that luffy waiting for NAMI's approval to help is big, he waits untill she personally asks. The respect to not act untill she says its okay is so respectful and never talked about,
luffy sits out of the situation this ENTIRE arc untill SHE finnaly asks
