DC is spending $$$ to resurface streets in Adams Morgan. Will this investment result in safer streets for kids walking to school, people in wheelchairs, or people pushing strollers? Or are we just getting a smoother parking lot? @AdamsMorganANC @JaperBowles
Some ideas: Raised crosswalks. Use planters mid-block to form neckdowns or chicanes that slow down cars. Parklets. Expanded @bikeshare stations. Sensors to detect whether a parking spot is occupied. Pickup-dropoff zones. Permanent slow streets, more space for kids to play.
Also, I attend most of the @AdamsMorganANC and @REEDCOOKEDC meetings. I don’t recall any notice for this work, no opportunity to object or offer suggestions. If this were a bike lane or an improved sidewalk, there would have been years of meetings before any asphalt is poured.
I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek here. I don't actually want every paving project to be reviewed by ANCs. I just want pedestrian/bike/bus projects to receive the same deference we give to car projects. Paving isn't up for debate, it just happens. Should be the same for bus lanes
