Done with my first class meeting of the pandemic fall. It went remarkably well - about 1/3 of the students were in the room, and 2/3 online (1/3 of students will be all online all fall - the rest will trade online and in-person each class meeting).

Class discussion was very strong - the hardest part was keeping up with it from my computer. There was a lot of muting/unmuting/recognizing students/etc. It was exhausting...but also exhausting because it was a very good discussion.

In-class students did great spacing themselves out, wearing masks, etc. Masks did not appear to impact intelligibility for those participating online.

I have two complaints:
1) Earstraps really start to dig in after an hour. I expect I will toughen up.

2) I wish we could do this class (Development Theory) as the three-hour seminar it is meant to be, but asking ppl to do 3 hours on Zoom is unrealistic. We had a great discussion going and had to stop after 1.5 hours. We'll see how well we resume on Wednesday.

But we're back doing what we do best - educating students in critical approaches that will make them more effective professionals across their careers. I'm thrilled!
