1. Pew, % of registered voters saying each is "very important" to their vote, late June 2016 vs. late July/early August 2020.

2016: https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2016/07/07/4-top-voting-issues-in-2016-election/

2020: https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2020/08/13/important-issues-in-the-2020-election/

Some observations to follow
2. First point is that, unfortunately, the list of issues is different in both years, so can't necessarily compare in all categories
3. Economy is top issue both years; GOP cared more about it in 2016, and partisan gap is a little bigger this time
4. SCOTUS appointments are at roughly same importance both years - slightly more Ds care this year after slightly more Rs cared in 2016
5. Gun policy less important; Rs care more this time after roughly even four years ago
6. Health care a big issue both years -- but look at that partisan gap this time. Biden supporters care way more about it than Trump supporters, whereas it was of equal importance four years ago.
7. Immigration down in importance, Trump voters cared more each year
8. Violent crime at fifth here (not specifically mentioned in 2016). Big partisan gap (Rs care more about it - I am sure that will be reflected in RNC messaging)
9. Treatment of racial/ethnic minorities - equally important to Dem voters both years. Significantly less important to Trump voters this year compared to 2016. Same dynamic w/ environment, tho perhaps not directly comparable (category "environment" in 16, "climate change" in 20)
10. Foreign policy markedly less important this year, not much of a partisan gap either year
