Robert Pattinson is a classic example of a figure popular among young women who was relentlessly & publically mocked until he established himself in a canon of male fiction/ film, which socially redeemed him & garnered public support, despite years of female advocacy for him
Just to be clear, I think Robert Pattinson is a fantastic actor. He’s taken several roles in smaller films since Twilight and his performances have consistently showcased his talents. However, Twilight was viciously hated mocked and hated based on its demographic, and it will -
take another high-profile film, in my opinion, before Robert Pattinson is redeemed in mainstream criticism. The fact that Batman is a recognisable hyper-masculine role will play a factor in dismantling years of abuse directed against his talent bc he was in a “girly” film
