Did CHUG concept art the other day, so why not Masterpiece this time around? Starting with this concept for MP-01, by Don Figueroa!
And since Starscream is all the rage right now, let's follow it up with MP-03! Or rather what it was originally going to look like.
(One of my favorite things about Masterpiece concept art is the linework. It's always so great. I think Hasui did those? Not sure.)
Anyways, a lot of hype was build up for Starscream. Then Takara requested Shōji Kawamori, of Macross fame (and Diaclone!), to apply some revisions. These did...Not go over well with the collector market, to put it mildly.
Forgot to share this in the first post, so I'll use the MP-04 slot as a chance to share this first look at MP-01. This was an EVENT, and along with the Binaltech Smokescreen reveal would be HasTak's first major steps into the Transformers collector market.
The infamous MP-05 Megatron! Didn't live up to the same standard Convoy set, but as would later turn out that wasn't so strange: Hisashi Yuki only had two weeks for the design!
The next new mold would be Grimlock! Don't have much for him though.
MP-09 Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime! A very ambitious 2-in-1 that would (indirectly) have a huge impact on the line. One thing that plagued the early MP figures was that scale was all over the place and wildly inconsistent. MP-10 would be made to stop this, by being in scale with MP-09.
The big one: MP-10! This was the figure that served as a reboot of the line. For a good while every figure after was in the same style, but even when it started to inch closer to toon-accuracy, the scale was kept to be the same as MP-10.
This is pretty well known at this point, but Huffer was considered as a pack in extra. But he was dropped for budgetary reasons, and is yet to see some kind of release in the line.
MP-11 Starscream version 1.5 was a revisit of the previous MP to return to the original concept, along with coronation gear. Then there is MP-12 Lambor/Sideswipe, who would be the first in a long line of carbots as cheaper but still excellent releases.
MP-13 Soundwave.
Don't have any art of the Datsuns unfortunately, so moving onto Wheeljack.
Tracks and Roadrage! With a bit of Ironhide.
The return of Hotrod! One that dropped the 2-in-1 gimmick and tried to focus more on delivering a good Hotrod toy.
Oops, skipped over Ultra Magnus. This one is interesting, because originally it was a Hasui passion project that would incorporate MP-10 as the core robot. But this was dropped in development, and the project was handed over to someone else.
Going to blast through the rest, don't have much else save for the big ones.
Look at the parts shared between Inferno and Grapple.
Here's a big one! MP-36 Megatron. This would pivot the line into more complicated engineering, articulation and along with Inferno would steer the line into full on cartoon accuracy.
And the other big one: MP-44 Optimus Prime! The third go at Optimus Prime, that follows up on the new standard set by Megatron and went even further. With...a matching pricetag.
Blackarachnia and Lio Convoy!
And finally: Starscream v2!
Bonus: Binaltech concept stuff. Starting off with the juicy ones, the Bumblebee/Cliffjumper and Porsche Jazz that never happened. Along with a smaller scale Smokescreen?
Some misc stuff.
Here's something I'm not sure was fanart or a thing that never happened: concept for a tank Megatron. Either way, no idea where this came from, found this one a while ago.
