Montreal public health is asking everyone involved in the Montreal salsa dancing scene to get tested. There are three cases linked to a salsa dancing event mid-August. It’s hard to do contact tracing because salsa dancing events don’t have a registry in the way bars do.
The outbreak is actually linked to two events: one in Parc Frederic Back and one on Ste-Catherine St. Public health reminds people that salsa dancing indoors is not allowed. If outdoors, people are asked to wear a mask and only have one partner.
Public health believes fewer than 500 people are affected by this
Two of the three COVID-19 positive patients went to the dance event despite having symptoms.
Mylène Drouin says some dance groups aren’t wanting to cooperate with the contact tracing. She says some are choosing not to share lists of who was there. Others are cooperative. She says it’s a mix.
