I think it's important from the perspective of someone with both chronic mental and physical illnesses to say that the NHS treatment of my mental health has been far superior to the treatment of my physical health.
This is something that @nicoleloisee talks about a lot but nobody ever listens to her. When you say 'physical illnesses get treated better than mental illnesses' you undermine the experiences of people with chronic physical illness.
Like yeah, if you go to A&E with a broken leg you're likely to get better treatment than if you go with a mental breakdown. But the NHS treatment of misunderstood, underdiagnosed, and stigmatised physical conditions can be awful.
Also, with that last example, when I went to A&E after injuring my leg the first time I waited 6 hours and overhead the doctor being dismissive. When I went because my parents didn't feel they could keep me safe I was given a private room immediately and fast-tracked to care.
I agree that there isn't parity of esteem for mental and physical health. I agree that many mental illnesses are underfunded. But it's not so black and white and there is not always such a clear delineation between the two.
