I always assumed that Crowley didn’t actually shred his plants and that he, like, planted them outside or something. But confirming that he gives them to the old lady downstairs?? Neil, my heart. Crowley is even softer than we imagined!!! (Thread bc I am weak) https://twitter.com/neilhimself/status/1297810338008764416
Can you imagine how much this old lady loves him? She probably tries to invite him in for tea, to show him how she’s taking care of the lovely plants he’s given her as a gift. She probably thinks of him as some sweet, long-lost son and Crowley, oh Crowley.
He’s no doubt helpless to deny her, taking her offers of tea and spinning half lies about his life so it sounds palatable. And he makes some self deprecating joke but she won’t hear it, refusing to let him talk about himself like that.
And Crowley feels warm inside. She pays him back with little things and one day in the winter Aziraphale comments on the knitted scarf Crowley is wearing, asking where he got it and Crowley turns bright red and mumbles unintelligibly into the fabric of it.
She learns his birthday, but Crowley has no idea how. Still she bakes him a cake every year and puts her hand over his as she wishes him a year of happiness. Crowley, not one to be outdone, learns ℎ𝑒𝑟 birthday and makes a point to visit every year
Because her family doesn’t. And if one of her children comes and is particularly nasty to her? Well, who could’ve known they’d have a flat tire when they went to leave?
She sees him with Aziraphale, only once, and asks him about Aziraphale. And when Crowley makes a face and stutters some half formed sentence, the words more chewed up than coherent, she just smiles and says “give him time, he’ll come around. I can see it in his eyes.”
It does more for Crowley’s nerves than anything else. And so what if she becomes some sort of medical marvel, with the longest lifespan anyone has seen? Crowley has no idea what they’re talking about.
Wow okay I just love Crowley being best friends with his old lady neighbor SO MUCH. Neil you have blessed me and filled my heart with joy today.
