Scenery, The First Song; Or the Beginnings of an Artist

I think about what makes us create. What leads us to pick up a pen, a paintbrush, a camera, what leads us to art. To making, to creating, to the better, prettier, kinder parts of us. What leads a young boy to a song?+
Scenery in many ways is about Taehyung's coming of age as an artist, as a poet, as a young man. He begins the song by asking 'Will I be able to hold this scene within me?" The flower path, the way the moon lights up a lonely park bench, will I be able to contain it?+
translate it to something meaningful? All the little corners of the world he has lived in and loved in, will I be able to hold all this within me? Taehyung is obsessed with memory. His desire to create comes from a need to remember, to hold on to life as it quickly passes him+
to hold on to time. Time which slips away. In a life of full day schedules, he wakes up early mornings to live a little. To be a boy. A boy wandering in a lonely meadow, a boy taking pictures in a crowd, a boy walking under trees in no real direction.+
Photography, a motif in Scenery, is his way of preserving life. He sings of moments he has missed out on, "My heart feels sad, having missed the very scene...", he speaks of regret. Of lost time. The camera then becomes a way to fight the passing of time+
There is a lot of debate on who he addresses in the song. The "you".

"On a street full of flowers, I see you, today as well"
"This song goes towards you"

If the song is about memory and the passage of time, the you is himself, younger him, the boy that is quickly growing up.+
He will return to this young boy in Inner Child and tell him he remembers him, he remembers all of it, the boy is still here, still a part of him. In Scenery the growing is still happening, there is an insistence to hold on to innocence, the "best parts" he wonders about.+
"I still wonder wonder beautiful story" Life, love, being in this world, among nature, with friends and grandmothers, a beautiful story indeed.

"Still wonder wonder best part" Of himself, of others, of life, the best parts he never wants to let go of. +
"I still wander wander next story" Of what's in store, the future, the best parts I know of and the next stories I'm still to be a part of, still to write, still to know, the next stories my wandering will take me to.
"I want to make you mine" All of it, all of love, all of life+
The camera sounds in the song, him capturing scenes in front of him, the love he's received, love he never wants to let go of, for Tae art becomes documentation of his own boyhood. What do young boys sing about? Tender, fragile things like time and youth+
He wanders, wanders. I'm not sure if we talk enough about how much heart and profundity and nuance and depth is in his songwriting and his craft. I'm not sure we ever really hear what he says and everything he doesn't.+
"If you leave, leaving your footprints behind,
I will keep their warmth
I will keep them in black and white"

What do I say, what do I say when my heart is stuck in my throat?+
I'm not sure who he's saying this to. The ones he loves? The ones who love him? To us, the listeners? To himself, the younger boy he wishes would appear in front of him today again? Or just to life. The lonely Swedish meadow, the park bench at 4 in the morning, the moon?+
And so an artist is born. One who would like to keep the warmth of things with him as long as he can. For whom music is a form of worship, a song is a prayer, a hymn to the love of people and a higher Love found in nature. Art could be this simple, this complex, this inspiring.+
The beginnings of an artist. A boy who likes to remember things at their best. Himself as he blossoms as he grows. The dandelions he blows on, the ones he loves, the ones cheering on for him.

"This song goes towards you", he says.
