why dedicated is a communist manifesto | a thread
julien: carly is clearly mourning the death of julien lahaut. he was murdered as part of an anti communist campaign in 1950. she had stated that this song isn’t about a current romantic partner, giving evidence to this theory.
no drug like me: carly sings about the drug trade that many lower income people are forced into. she’s advocating for a world where those practices are unnecessary.
now that i found you: the feeling that there’s nothing like is the feeling of equality and workers rights. in the music video, carly finds a kitten in a box, a reference to the homelessness caused by capitalism.
want you in my room: carly is advocating for lower living and housing costs. everyone deserves a room to want someone in
everything he needs: carly delivers a song about social welfare over a futuristic baseline. everything he needs is about people getting the things they need to live happy lives.
happy not knowing: carly is happy not knowing what a life of living in an unfortunate situation is like, and she wishes the same for everyone.
i’ll be your girl: carly is demonstrating that she supports true human right to belong to a country. you are the country’s girl.
too much: as the title suggests, this song is about excess wealth and money hoarding.
the sound: carly calls out rich politicians/celebrities who speak about social issues (i don’t need the words) without putting their wallet where their mouth is.
automatically in love: carly describes life in a communist world as easy and automated like an automatic machine.
feels right: carly knows communism feels right❤️
right words wrong time: carly understands that her communist manifesto isn’t useful at the time of release, so the meanings were hidden. she intended for them to only be discovered now, when we really need them.
real love: carly talks about her real love for equality and human/worker rights.
for sure: this song title is carly’s response to being asked if she’s a communist.
party for one: carly ends the album with a satirical bop. the songs is ironic in being about a party for one when communism is clearly a party for the collective.
