A thing we have learnt in growing #Proteaceae is that gardening with those from fire driven ecosystems is all about a constant process of renual & replacement. Today we said goodbye to our old friend Leucadendron gandogeri, a stalwart who has reached the end of her natural life.
In her prime she brought such sunshine to our garden. We will miss her.
She was given to us by @PenberthPlants back in 2013 as just a 2ltr pot baby. https://twitter.com/fossilplants/status/304650022698500096?s=19
She flowered her way through some horrific winters and even through the beast from the east!
But after the heat of the beginning of the year and the constant rain since she had started to show her age.
But it's OK that she is going as her wood and leaves will make smoke for a new generation of little pyrophytes.
And there are more Leucadendron gandogeri plants from our wild seed collections ready to cast sunshine on our lives again in the future. https://twitter.com/fossilplants/status/1018941195844837378?s=19
So long our beloved sunshine conebush. We will miss you and we will always try to remember you at your best.
#RIP Leucadendron gandogeri you were beautiful.
