I will be livetweeting the @CALFIRECZU press conference for #CZULightningFire in this thread; you can watch it yourself at https://www.pscp.tv/CALFIRECZU/

KSBW reporting changing winds and higher temps today

#CZUFire #SantaCruz
Fire at 78k acres, 13% contained [that's more than yesterday!], 231 structures confirmed destroyed

1511 firefighters assigned to incident

Evacuation warning went out in Santa Clara COunty yesterday afternoon in an abundance of caution, there is no imminent threat
Cal Fire Operations reports great progress in the past day

Control line established on the north end of the fire, in some places the fire is burning itself out running out of fuel

In Davenport we have a good control line and building protection today
Great control line on the South including a controlled burn in the Bonny Doon area protecting UCSC and the City of Santa Cruz, we are confident these lines will hold

Felton still looking good

hwy9 corridor has some new lines put in, they were established rapidly
These new lines are not as robust as we would want, but the topography is super difficult, and we are working with what we have.

There will be little setbacks here and there even though we do not expect any significant threat to the community right now, because fire still active
You will see some fire activity above hw9, in some places it has come down to the highway but those are areas without structures, the road itself is part of our control and management plan

Bonny Doon is difficult because of vegetation, dispersed structures, terrain
Working super hard in Bonny Doon to increase control and we have made great progress.

Sheriff has been doing welfare checks, 10 suspicious people calls and 2 welfare checks, missing persons still at 4

3 arrests last night, we have 79 personnel today doing patrols
People charged with being in a closed evacuation area, also cited for being in evac area, and some people arrested on warrants

There was an evacuation warning in the city of Santa Cruz but there is no imminent danger to the city right now. Be ready but no imminent danger now
Loads of people interested in the fire commander's stolen wallet, if we can find who did this that person is going to jail

@SMCSheriff announces no significant changes

6 people came into a restricted area to check on their property, fire closed in, and they had to be rescued
Rescuing people means taking resources away from fighting the fire and putting first responders in danger to get people out, please don't make us do that

All info is going out on the app and social media. Thank you.
Billy C, Cal Fire Incident Commander

Seeing larger winds on this incident, winds still growing

We will keep increasing personnel, there have been steady growth in personnel numbers and that's expected to continue

Obvs lots of help from “mother nature” giving us good conditions
We are being proactive, planning for the return of adverse conditions so if that happens we know what to do to keep perimeter.

Chief Larkin also notes the weather and the increase in containment.

Sergeant Mizuno noted that people trying to check on their residences are a risk
We have all our damage inspection teams out there getting information to the county, we are making a database so you can check online to see the status of your property, please do not come back here to check yourself, it diverts resources from firefighting.
