I don’t know how to better make people understand that they’re being homophobic/discriminatory than by referencing other forms of discrimination. Before you say “Does not make me a homophobe” ask yourself “Would it be racism if a white person was saying this about black people?“
SO, Example 1: “I don’t have anything against gay people, I just don’t agree with that lifestyle” “I don’t have anything against black people, I just don’t like them”
Exactly 2: “I don’t want my children exposed to gay people”
“I don’t want my children exposed to black people”
“Disagreeing with Lasizwe does not make us homophobic”
“Disagreeing with pro-blackness does not make us racist”. Should I go on?
I hope you’re seeing how ignorant you sound.
We shouldn’t have to resort to this but here we are. I just don’t have any desire to constantly break down homophobia to people who find every way to justify it.
It is beyond me how people can so easily spot discrimination when they are the victims of it but not when they are the perpetrators. Here you are, DENYING and trying to justify the very kind prejudice you’ve been victims of. But because it doesn’t apply to you, it’s not wrong?
