At a minimum, that uncomfortable truth is an indictment of their naiveté or gullibility. This triggers them b/c they've been told by Info Wars, and FOXNews only they know the "real truth", and that the Left are "sheeple". This pierces that inverted, fallacious narrative. 3/

I wrote a thread analyzing this. Basically, when support of Trump became an indictment of their morality/character, the need to "exonerate" him became an obsession... because exonerating him, exonerated them. Therefore they engaged in bias (morality) confirming behavior. So...5/
...they seek out information/sources (Rush/Fox) that completely confirm their morality (that they're "good" people), & completely dismiss information/sources that challenge their worldview (Trump/politics) because a challenge to their worldview is a challenge to their morality.6/
