Time for my Star Wars controversial opinion of the day:
I think Rey as a "nobody" only works to an extent. If they kept everything Kylo told her as the truth, in the third film Rey'd become a tool to Kylo's redemption because she'd not be connected to the heart of the story.
She, the protagonist, would be merely a watcher to the Skywalker drama again (Which is where it lies the heart of the story). She had to be connected somehow to not let her protagonism fade away.
That's why I'm fine with Rey Palpatine. She is connected to the main story and to the main family in some capacity, so she can be the heart of the story. TRoS is way more about her than any character.
By the way, this is not a jab to Rian Johnson. I love TLJ and I think it works in that film, but if we really wanted a full story with that, I think it'd work better in a spin-off or if they didn't do so much mystery with her in TFA.
