A quick look at how the @ucas_corporate data has changed since Friday now that universities have the 'official' CAGs data. A short thread:
Below are the numbers for UK-domiciled school leaver age applicants, today on Left, Friday on Right. An extra 830 placed at their first ('firm') choice; and a similar (790) *reduction* in placed insurance (2nd) choice - reflecting more 'qualified' for 1st choice post-CAGs
The 'holding offer' (or pending decision) category is also down so another 1800 students out of limbo-land. +1640 placed Clearing over w/e. Clearing overall 6850 down on this stage last year - so not the bumper Clearing year that some predicted (bc more placed 1st and 2nd choice)
You can see the unusual pattern in the 'daily net change' data below. In previous years, Day 11 (Monday) would be an ever-smaller number of new placed apps. This year, Day 11 had an extra 2000 placed compared to Day 8 (Friday) reflecting the processing of new CAG grades
Higher tariff unis up +5% (all domiciles) or +8000 students - I'd guess quite significant extra intake at the top of the higher tariff group which could cause problems for some.
Less than 2000 fewer placed at lower tariff since last year and they added 2880 students over the weekend. Some in LT category will probably still have taken quite a recruitment hit; medium tariff (down 1030) will also be unevenly distributed. MT also added c 1400 over w/e
the much-feared (forced) mass deferrals of UK school leaver applicants don't seem to be happening. A few hundred extra deferrals over the weekend but still 7% down on last year. But of the 14990 deferrals in this group, how many would have preferred not to?
+5% and +3% increases in Polar Q1 and Q2 respectively on Friday (most under-represented groups in HE) has improved to +6% (Q1) and +4% (Q2) today - so universities have made room for more disadvantaged applicants - 590 more since Friday
All of this reflects an astonishing response from universities in exceptionally difficult circs and an overall remarkably healthy position. But the detail will show which students and which universities have really taken the hit (+ and -) when UCAS End of Cycle data is published
