tw// death, drowning

alright i have thoughts on /that/ scene from wearp and i really need to get it off my chest.
as someone who identifies as a lesbian it’s honestly so hurtful to see this type of character storyline for nicole. it’s harmful seeing her nearly die every season for absolutely no reason.
the way in which she nearly dies is also extremely violent and gruesome. the widow attack, the slashing by bulshar, and now the tub scene.
it’s hard to stomach seeing the lesbian representation on the show i love, basically thrown around and beaten down every season.
it makes me sick knowing that waverly has seen her girlfriend die nearly a dozen times. it makes me feel like that’s the destiny of lgbt women, specifically lesbians. it makes me feel that somehow i could be destined to that fate.
i recognize the syfy/drama aspect of the show. but there are more ways to create angst/tension in a storyline than to brutalize BOTH the poc and lgbt characters in the show.
the writers have and will continue to be praised for their “brave” choices in storylines, but it’s not brave at all. it’s hurtful and extremely traumatizing that once again our representation is shown in such a brutal and heartbreaking way.
i’m tired of begging for lesbian/lgbt characters and actual storylines, and then it ends up circulating around them being the brunt of violence.
i’m not asking the show be fluff, because i know that’s not how syfy/dramas works. all i’m asking is that poc and lgbt characters to be treated with dignity and to stop resorting to death and violence to move the story forward.
i love this cast and show more than anything. i truly do but the writers MUST do better when it comes to poc and lgbt characters. i’m tired of the bare minimum
adding onto this thread, STOP telling people how to feel towards the treatment of the characters. just shut up. it doesn’t matter if it’s not hurting you but other people are actually hurt by it.
