A thread: reasons to #ScrapSI445, in no particular order, followed by a personal story.
In 1978, when I was two and a half, I was sent to live with foster carers who I would remain with for over 2 years. Because of my age, and I guess trauma, I used to wet the bed. So they made me sleep in the bath. In my memory this was most nights, but I cannot be sure. 1/
I guess this low level cruelty had a rationale. What made less sense was being made to run the bath so the male foster carer could hold my head under the water. Nor did I understand the bitter white powder on my cereal which made me wretch - salt. 2/
Or why I had to eat separately to the carers and their own children. I do not know if the couple went on to foster other children. What I do know is this. 3/
Any lessening, any reduction, any "flexibility" regarding second sight over children in care, or rigour in the recruitment of foster carers and care staff, will lead to more children being abused. 4/
