So, here's the list
1. Don't reopen casinos, night clubs and other spaces which could increase local infection rates.
2. Encourage people to work at home where possible
3. Ensure workplaces are COVID-safe before opening
4. Ensure regular inspection and action taken against workplaces and public facilities which violate COVID guidelines.
5. Legislate to guarantee that those who have to self-isolate (including parents of sick children) are not penalised at work.
6. Ensure anyone who self isolates suffers no financial detreiment and is given full support (accommodation, food, social support etc.)
7. Develop an effective testing and trace system rooted in tried and trusted local public health systems
8. Prrovide funding for extra teachers and hiring extra spaces so classrooms can be adequately socially distanced
9. Provide funding to ensure all classrooms are properly ventilated
10. Fund a clear and comprehensive public information campaign to support these policies.
In short, you can't keep schools open on a wish and a prayer. It needs to be part of a comperhensive strategy to drive infections down and to avoid risks that might derail schools reopening. It requires systematic policies rather than bluster.
So is getting schools open is a moral obligation and a core priority for you. Is it more important that a pint down the pub with your mate Tim? We shall see...
Oh, and if you want something morer systematic on getting schools open, read the Independent SAGE report: https://www.independentsage.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Schools-v-short-consultation-v3-1.pdf A systematic analysis rooted in a systematic strategy to deal with COVID-19.
