Another interesting extract in today’s Times from the new book on Corbyn. Today it’s focused on the antisemitism issue.
If you can, buy the paper, or subscribe (you get a certain number of free articles a week) but these are some of my highlights.
1) Karie Murphy made a list of things Corbyn could do to quell the growing row with the Jewish community. None of it happened.
2) Proof (once again to me) that antizionist Jews are incredibly dangerous to their co-religionists. Corbyn’s zealously antiZionist Jewish friends told him he wasn’t antisemitic and he believed them.
3) Corbyn was incapable of any kind of self reflection on the issue of antisemitism and fell out with his closest ally John McDonnell over Labour attempting to punish Margaret Hodge for calling him an antisemite and a racist.
4) Corbyn was unable to listen to Jewish fears because he had no empathy. When people ask me why I think Corbyn is a racist I always point to this incredible lack of empathy. If a tiny minority in this country says it is scared, A TRUE ANTI RACIST WOULD LISTEN.
5) One reason why Corbyn showed no empathy is because the Jewish community is seen as prosperous not downtrodden. That shows a pernicious ignorance of what racism is. Jews in 1930s Germany were also ‘prosperous’; it didn’t make them any safer. This haunts the Jewish imagination.
