being a good friend to someone means learning how to read between the lines. anyone can do the bare minimum but it takes a special person to really make sure their friend is doing well & to listen to them. to not use them for solely stimulation but also to share sweet moments.
i mean truly, how many signs and hints can they send you that they are in fact not okay? some people don’t want to burden their friends by expressing that they’re upset. it is your job to listen to the words that are not being spoken. that’s what caring looks like.
to say things like “oh they never told me they were depressed so”. that’s a scapegoat you’re using to avoid the fact that your self-centeredness contributes to your oblivion. do better.
