its funny because daisy's murder comes on top of the demons invading earth and destroying cities and large numbers of people, but its killing the guy's rabbit that really is what dooms them (no pun intended) to extinction
you can of course understand why very instantly if you look at the ending screen of the first game. he thinks he's coming home after surviving a trip through hell and back. and literally the first thing he sees after landing on earth is his pet bunny rabbit's severed head
and of course he just snaps, this time there will be no survivors. they're all going to die
there's been a lot in doom lore that has been fleshed out and i hear the new dlc will reveal even more, but we've never learned whether or not the demons intentionally killed daisy or were even remotely aware whose rabbit it was
i think it would better if they didn't know. that the most catastrophic mistake they ever made would be a total accident
the part when the khan makyr is desperately trying to bribe him to turn back and avoid killing the last hell priest, she finally straight up says 'i can restore back what the demons took from you' and she's very clearly referring to the bunny
of course it doesn't work. it just makes him *angrier* than he already was. because she's in the absurd position of trying to barter the fate of humanity for a bunny rabbit. that ship has already sailed
the lore revelations in eternal and the new doom 64 campaign make it clear. he is the same doom hero as the original 90s games. he traveled to hell in doom 64 and decided to stay there permanently after realizing that the demon invasions would never stop
the soft reboot then makes him emerge out of hell in a different timeline where, in essence, the same sequence of events happens again, albeit slightly differently. he survives a demon invasion on a uac mars facility again, then earth is invaded by the demons. again.
by this point he's just incoherently angry and his only thoughts and motivations revolve around obsessively ripping and tearing demons.
her promises to restore him back to his own timeline and give him back his bunny rabbit in return for allowing the demon invasion to continue are meaningless. he can't go back home. no matter what he does, hell will follow him anywhere
after all, the demon invasion in eternal is just the same event in which daisy was killed, repeated in a different timeline.
despite what i just typed, doom lore really isn't that deep. even after the way doom 2016 and doom eternal expanded it. but it always did have a rather macabre sense of absurdity from the first game onwards, the new lore just makes it more obvious
given that john wick's dog is *also* named daisy maybe the moral of the story is that if you're a bad guy you should just give pets named daisy a wide berth. who knows what other heavily armed killers have pets named daisy
we now have two confirmed instances of someone going on a murderous rampage because the death of a pet named daisy was the final humiliation on top of everything else
otoh n=2, that's not a lot to go on. otoh the cost of being *wrong* seems to be fairly severe
idk about u but if i see that someone has even a pet spider named daisy that spider is going to live a long and healthy life, i am not going to have some elite retired spetsnaz commando come after my ass because i squashed the mf's spider
