people seem to think that people against gentrification don’t like nice neighborhoods, this is not the case. gentrification of low income neighborhoods is the introduction and replacement of resources, institutions and stores that were previously affordable with high income
stores that require more money to shop at. if these commodities were introduced at an affordable rate (WHICH THEY SHOULD BE) everything would be fine but people (especially poc) are being forced out of their homes. what’s a way to solve this? well repetitions would be great!
put money into neighborhoods pocs have been forced to and provide these resources at a rate people can afford. (i’m asking for socialism, let’s get some goddamn socialism up in here)
that’s also the thing that people misunderstand about repetitions. they think the government would just be sending a cash check to every black person (which would still be way way better than what they have done which by the way is nothing), what is really necessary is to fix
the damage done by the countless racist institutions that have been put in place one in particular being the housing crisis of the 50’s where property was illegally seized from black people and they were forced into segregated housing, these entirely black neighborhoods
allowed for more easily targeted discrimination. these neighborhoods were purposefully given no resources, they were purposefully given no opportunities and the effects still last to this day. i’m losing steam writing this thread so i might pick it up again later.
