Port Elgin Ontario. The C.A.W. education centre. Now Unifor. Big! Always wondered what it was like - union members could go on retreats. Folks from Windsor often went. I think GM mom didn’t - timing didn’t work or some such.
Can’t remember if dumbass pundits called it the “re-education centre” or if union folk called it that, making fun of dumbass pundits. At any rate, they got their own windmill now. (As seen from across a field).
(Was off the phone mostly today - some sights here) Port Elgin has some great houses/cottages (and some treeless bland suburban streets adjacent - such a transition. Plant trees! Sun baked unrelenting heat unpleasant.)
Prepper?
Many old cars out for a leisurely tour up there today. Here’s a sweet GTO. He noticed I had camera up so he did a little bouncy dance.
Nice little things like this - and many open washrooms. All over countryside, Bruce, it’s easier to go to the toilet in small towns than the city. Toronto fails its residents & visitors here.
Despite the untamed car & driver culture that necessitates these pathetic signs, lots of people riding bikes around. Some lanes. Rail trails. This little public tool area on the beach.
“Beach Buggy”, a reliant minivan. Note: boomerang tv antenna.
Here are photos of the not gigantic beach at Port Elgin at the height of summer, on a weekend, during a pandemic. Everything is fine on the beach.
Here we are in neighbouring Southampton today, another place I’ve never been to. They seem to carry unicorns on their bikes here.
There is a large flag in Southampton #, presumably to send a message to Michigan, just there, over the horizon a spell. All the other provincial & territory flags run up the Main Street.
Saugeen River is bigger than I expected. Also has a small fishery here. Lake fishing boats are unique & closed in, like on Lake Erie. SOO ONT
Métis population in Saugeen area as well.
There’s the Chantry Island bird reserve. Zoom in for cool old lighthouse. Pic doesn’t do justice but it shimmers on the horizon - looks like it belongs in the Venetian lagoon. (Thanks to @interchange42 for the nice wee tour of Southampton).
Good chop on the ocean today. You can swim in it up and down the coast for a half hour and feel your skin glowing warm from the sun on the drive back to the city across the middle of Lower Ontario. All is also well on the beach here too.
A stop at the local economy on the way out. Said this the other day but mask use & shop rules/procedures and etc were nearly universally excellent on this trip. Never a weird moment. Ontario and social trust. Maybe something to write about. Gives me faith in a dark time.
This ends 5 days and 4 nights motel hopping in northern southwest Ontario. It’s alright. This place is alright.

The corn is high. #CornReport
Forgot this one (may yet add to this thread). Look at this perfect motel.
