Sacred Stones in my opinion always had the strongest cast of any Fire Emblem game but as I realized today upon watching a video on the game, it is undoubtedly Nintendo's darkest game. Forget Paper Mario or Majora's Mask, Sacred Stone's E for Everyone is a LIE! A thread...
Before I begin showcasing the dark stuff, I want to point that the twin protagonists and the main bad guy Lyon are amongst my favourites in the franchise and that's not even delving into the many great allies you can recruit (I had a huge crush on Marisa for example)
Now as I go through this thread, keep in mind this game was rated E for Everyone somehow. Trust me, by the end of this you'll wonder why. You might think it can't be that bad but the final entry alone could EASELY give this game an M rating.
First up, a simple case from early on in the game. On chapter 5, an enemy mage takes kids hostage and has giant spiders slowly crawl towards them with the intent of having them be eaten alive by said spiders unless Erika (one of the twins) hands over her relic
Next is Valter, an enemy general and straight up psychopath who kills an ally and casually brings the corpse miles away to the deceased's brother to pin it on Erika. All of this just for his own twisted fun and to test Erika who he is obsessed with in a very violently sexual way
Our last entry concerns Orson, the ONLY character in the franchise who you play as an ally but later turns into an enemy without warning and becomes a boss in a later chapter. You might think I overhyped him but this is just the setup
Turns out the reason he betrayed is because the enemy offered to bring his dead wife back. By the time you meet him again as a boss, he has seized your home castle whom he let in disrepair. Not only that but he also let himself go and is malnourished, atrophied and basically...
In a really bad physical state. Turns out he had been hanging in the throne room with his "wife" who is nothing but an animated decaying rotted corpse who only says "Darling". You do not physically see her instead only having it described by the cast who are horrified.
And get this, Orson was shown to have straight up conversations with her and a delusional happy life with said thing who is described as not human anymore. Whomever made his story needs a raise for the creatively dark idea but also so they can seek therapy, my god.
Credit to Faerghast and this video for giving me a new respect and horror on one of my favourite titles in the franchise, here's the video where he shows and explains all this far better than I did. Sacred Stones needs to be more known man!
