1. GOING LIVE
Mentioning that you& #39;re going live in someone else& #39;s chat can be seen as a call for the current viewers to abandon their current stream and watch you instead. Better to say that you& #39;re heading off, and wish them well.

2. FOLLOWS
Asking for follows in someone else& #39;s stream = a big NO. Hinting that you& #39;re going live is one thing - outright asking for those viewers to follow you is actively promoting yourself in someone else& #39;s stream. Not only will people NOT follow you, they will avoid you.

3. LURK
A grey area. Some streamers do not mind the !lurk message; however, with Twitch& #39;s new analytics, all lurking does is add a single chat message to the summary. Viewers must be active on a page to count in the stats.

3. LURK (cont.)
If you are unable to interact with chat, I would listen to the stream and then when you can, message the streamer offline or participate in Discord discussions. You can still be an active, supportive community member without being in chat.

4. I& #39;M CURRENTLY STREAMING
Any mention of you being currently live comes across as a plea for viewers to venture to your channel instead of their current choice. It can also sound like a bid for the end of stream raid.

A recent combination is & #39;!lurk currently streaming! have a good one!& #39; While it can feel supportive, it also comes very close to the & #39;pls raid me& #39; and & #39;pls come watch me& #39;. If you are streaming, just stream. Why are you in someone else& #39;s chat if you are live?

5. MONEY
Asking someone how much money they make from Twitch is not just disrespectful, it& #39;s rude. Their income is none of your business. If you are curious as to how much Twitch streamers earn, there is a wealth of YouTube videos at your disposal (see @HarrisHeller& #39;s videos).

6. OFFERING LURK FOR LURK, FOLLOW FOR FOLLOW

7. OWED VIEWERS
You aren& #39;t. Streamer communities are there for you to feel at home among your peers, not to pass their viewing time back and forth like currency. Viewers will watch a stream they enjoy, so focus on making your stream enjoyable. That& #39;s it; that& #39;s the whole secret.

8. POLITICS & RELIGION
Generally a no go, unless the streamer has allowed it and is actively engaging in discussion. In this troubling time, a lot of people use Twitch as an escape. Let them.

9. HATE SPEECH
Just don& #39;t. If you do, don& #39;t even feign surprise at the following, immediate ban.

10. MODS
Listen to the mods. Only the streamer can overrule a mod. If you feel you& #39;ve been treated unfairly by a moderator, message the streamer privately offline. Do not expect them to respond while live.

11. GAME SPOILERS
Pay attention to the tags. If someone has tagged their stream as & #39;first playthrough& #39; do not deliberately spoil the game for them.

12. SETTING CHAT BOUNDARIES (for streamers)
Your chat is your responsibility. Set the boundaries and the lines of discussion and do not take it lightly. Don& #39;t be afraid to tell someone to knock off their behaviour and invoke your mods for help.

13. LINKS
Always ask before posting a link. Do not post a link to NSFW content or political/religious content. Accept & #39;no& #39; as a full answer from a moderator or streamer.

14. INAPPROPRIATE QUESTIONS
Would you ask the same question to your great-aunt? No? Then don& #39;t ask it of this new streamer you& #39;ve just found.

15. TALKING ABOUT OTHER STREAMERS
"Streamer A has more viewers than you right now." "I& #39;m watching Streamer B do this." "Streamer C just got a bunch of gift subs." - nope. Avoid talking about other streamers unless invited.

16. GIFT SUBS
Gift subs are great fun! If you don& #39;t get one, DO NOT ask for one. If you get one, thank the gifter and enjoy your emotes.

17. RAIDS
Asking for a raid is generally frowned upon. The streamer will choose who to raid and they don& #39;t need to explain why. You can leave the raid before it happens, but accept it is the streamer& #39;s choice.

18. END
At the end of the day, Twitch etiquette is a constantly evolving behaviour that can only be learned by listening and watching. Feel free to add any points I may have missed, and I& #39;m always up for a discussion. Happy viewing!
