The Batman (2021)
An analysis of the protagonist

The philosophies and ideals behind the character that is Batman have always been incredibly compelling. A character who is morally strict with himself, and seemingly perfectly disciplined, is a unique and special character.
In ‘The Batman’ (2021) we will observe a young Batman thirsty for vengeance, angry, traumatized, and most likely struggling with his ideals and trying to deal with rampant crime in Gotham.

In this thread I will discuss some predictions I have as well as dive into those ideals.
A. Batman’s disposition.

In the trailer Batman appears to be in a very passionately serious and angry. My main guess is the trauma of his parents’ death affected him deeply (of course the classic motivator for Batman) and he suffers from it greatly in the film.
This is relatively unique for the Batman character. We haven’t seen a live action Batman so grave and crushed, and my prediction is that he will be a loose cannon out for blood. No I don’t think he will kill, but I do think he will at least somewhat walk the line of good and bad.
This brings me to the next point of analysis:

B. “I am vengeance.”

In the trailer we see (presumably) a goon approach the Batman and ask who he is. Batman proceeds to pummel the guy and ominously speak the words:
“I am vengeance.”
I am of course aware of Conroy’s famous “I am vengeance. I am the night. I am Batman!” However, Batman seems unnecessarily ruthless in this clip (even with the goon being a villain) and I can only presume that Batman’s ruthlessness is a direct result of his trauma,
And this connects to what I was saying before, where I think we will be seeing a Batman who is very much on the edge. The goon clip is a prime example of that, I believe. This connects to my next main topic:
C. Vengeance vs. Justice

In one of my favorite scenes in Batman Begins, a broken Bruce is talking with his friend Rachel Dawes in a pivotal moment for his character. In this scene Rachel says:
“Justice is about harmony. Revenge is about you making yourself feel better, which is why we have an impartial system.”

I predict that Pattinson will grow out of being “vengeance” and mature, and become the true, ultimate “Justice” that Batman is meant to be.
Following this scene in Batman Begins is one of the greatest shots in a Batman film in my opinion:

Bruce throwing the gun away symbolizes not only his abandonment of gun use and killing criminals, but also a pure commitment to Justice over vengeance.
(I actually tweeted about this shot a while back) https://twitter.com/nogoodthingdies/status/1281815393670135809
All in all, my hope is that Pattinson’s Batman matures from a reckless, emotional, (perhaps even) misguided Batman, into the true Justice who is a symbol of protection and hope for the city of Gotham.

And I trust Reeves will deliver something absolutely amazing for us.
