I have a LOT of questions/problems with #Lucifer after forcing my roommate to sit through my over-an-hour-long tirade about shit that makes no narrative sense & shit that makes no logical sense & shit that is WAY worse than we realize if we think about it for more than a minute.
Like...the whole "guilt sends you to Hell/you are your own jailer & you supply the blueprint for your own torture" thing. There are soooooo many problems with that if you actually think about it beyond the surface level of "meh okay whatever I guess that makes sense."
No, actually, it doesn't.

I'd confidently wager there are TONS of very decent people who feel guilty about things over which they had no real control, &/or things they THINK they should feel guilty about, but the guilt is unfounded & unreasonable...& they go to Hell for that?!?
There are entirely decent people who happen to experience the psychological phenomena of disturbing intrusive thoughts that they don't want, that don't actually reflect or define their true morality/goodness/innocence/etc, BUT they still feel guilty about having those thoughts.
And there are those who, to varying degrees, can't control how they feel about themselves. Ex: low self esteem due to severe clinical depression could easily lead to guilt over mere consideration of whether one "deserves" a peaceful afterlife.

Mental illness → guilt → Hell?!?
There are also those who suffer trauma & never process it via therapy & healthy communication & constructive coping mechanisms, & consequently feel somehow complicit in their own traumatization, hence guilt, hence Hell.

Could be part of Dan's Hell loop, for instance, IF he goes.
THEN there are people who commit relatively minor "sins", or have destructive habits, or were raised in toxic conditions & need to unlearn that toxicity. What if they die in the pocket of time between (1) recognizing their issue + feeling guilty, & (2) seeking help?
The system deeply, DEEPLY sucks. Idk if the writers are aware & plan on fixing that shit before the show ends, or if they really haven't thought about it hard enough.

I do know that, in the #LuciferNetflix universe, Hell is quite likely full of people who SHOULDN'T BE THERE.
And why, WHYYYYYY does Lucifer just accept that this is how it works? He hates how his father does things, he sees Dad as manipulative & unfair & cruel, but when it comes to Hell's system of punishment, he never questions, like, the qualification criteria??
I know he had no choice in being warden & doing the job, but God set up the whole system, & Luci thumbs his nose at Dad constantly. Did it never occur to him to thumb his nose at the entire concept of "guilt traps you in your own Hell," and how unreliable & UNJUST it is?
We know Lucifer WILL NOT stand by when he sees injustice without consequence, but he never, in all the countless millennia spent Down There, realized a shit-ton of precipitating circumstances leading to damnation aren't actually Hell-worthy?? That people are in Hell UNJUSTLY?
I've only been watching the show for, what, 1½, 2 years? I figured out a bunch of scenarios in which good people can & WILL wind up being eternally tortured. I guarantee I haven't even thought of them all.

Come the fuck on. He's had mooore than enough time to think this through.
Maybe he didn't know any better in the beginning, but after "vacationing" on Earth, seeing how "silly" humans can be about guilt irl, that should've caused even the tiniest little revelation.

But he IS the oldest self-absorbed man-child in existence, sooooo then again maybe not?
I'm just saying, I guarantee if Chloe showed up in Hell due to misplaced guilt, Lucifer would get it IMMEDIATELY.

Wasn't there anyone else he knew who ended up in Hell? People he liked? Good people who wrongly guilted themselves into punishment??

No??!?!

😐😒 Yeah OKAY.
I'm aware this is "overthinking" to an unfathomable degree. I get it.

But it's either that or face the real horrors of the real world.

Currently, I choose to be pissy about a pretend world that SHOULDN'T BE SO ILLOGICAL DAMNIT.

(Right, the Devil show should be more logical 🙄)
Tagging @gaugebosons because if I put you through this whole thing once, I might as well do it again. Mwahaha. Now who's the torturer?
