You might be thinking, I don't remember following this account

It's me, Erick from Gumroad Review

Let me take you into my mind for a bit to understand the change

[THREAD]
I started Gumroad Review a few months ago with the purpose of providing something the community needed

Trust

Admit it or not, anyone who comes across the digital info product space is skeptical at first
People expect digital products to be free since they can be duplicated at no extra cost + all the Youtube and blog tutorials have spoiled them

So I thought I could provide that

As I grew, I connected with creators and people would come to me for recommendations
Yet, almost no one bought from my affiliate links

Matter of fact, almost no one went to the website

Even when I put out a review, and the creator retweeted it, I'd get maybe 20 visitors?

I figured I have to keep pushing
More reviews, more followers, and the website stayed the same

I had many days where I wanted to quit, didn't seem worth it

But what broke the camels back, was when I went through my timeline to see what tweets performed best, and I didn't recognize my tweets
I had been so focused on following growth guides and doing everything the right way, my timeline didn't have my voice

My niche had taken over everything I do here

My account was no longer mine

It was Gumroad Review's account
Yesterday I saw a tweet talking about how social media rewards you for certain things, so you do those things more often, and as you grow, you lose yourself and become an embodiment of the specific things that worked
That made me stop and think. Do I want to become a big account that just reviews Gumroad courses?

What happens when Gumroad starts offering reviews from buyers? My account would be pointless

That realization made me realize it's time to pivot or go all in on GR
And I'm deciding to pivot

I've learned A LOT these past few months here

I want to start creating. My own creations, not reviews about other's creations

And not growth guides

But things to help you outside of twitter
But even outside of social media, in all social aspects

I want to express myself without worrying about my niche

That is why I changed my profile

This account will be a more personal way I see the world
I'm lowering my tweets from 8 a day to 3

And focusing on making those three the best tweets I can write

Writing 8 for the sake of "when my followers are active" felt forced, and i was producing shit
I'm going to get out of engagement groups

Engagement group "LIKES" feel like participation trophies

I will continue to engage with the timeline, it's one of my favorite things to do
I'm also working on my own guide

It's a collection of everything I've learned going through courses

It will show you the many ways people are making money here

If you thought affiliate marketing was dope, it's just the tip of the iceberg
And lastly, I will continue to work on Gumroad Review

I just won't dedicate as much time to it

I have over 70 course reviews left to add to the site, so content is no problem

If you made it this far, I can't tell you how excited I feel
I have been feeling trapped by my own niche for a while and this feels like a breath of fresh air

Thank you for coming along on my journey, things are about to get interesting 😎
