hi friends! i mean no harm whatsoever in making this thread but i just wanted to impart some information that i don't think a lot of ppl know on the background of the musical inspiration for thanxx. this is just what i have learned and if something here is very inaccurate lmk
this thread stems from the claim that the musical inspo for thanxx is latin when it is, in fact, arabic. however, i do want to suggest why this comment would have been made. it also gives some idea as to why the word "gracias" (a spanish word) appears in the song
many muslims emigrated to the iberian peninsula (spain+portugal) in the 8th century. the empire was called al-andalus, an offshoot of the fallen umayyad caliphate. the muslim inhabitants became known as moors in spain (facing much prejudice during the inquisition in Spain).
many of their cultural enclaves exist in southern spain with cities like cordoba boasting great monuments of islamic fusion architecture (i.e. the Alhambra). evidently, the music they had also diffused into spanish music (esp. w/ Spanish Romantic music and the spanish guitar).
ofc, this music is still very much arab, but it was present in "latin" or spanish music (since spanish is a language coming from latin roots) as a product of diffusion. if this was the inspiration point, it may explain why they said what they said (tho the accuracy is sketchy).
i'll link a pretty famous piece that shows this fusion style! ofc I do not intend to talk over arab fans/present the music in a colonized fashion but just simply show where this misinformation may have stemmed from. pls take w/ a grain of salt! thank u :)
