Debunking Islamophobes’ Claims That Islam Allows Sex Slavery.
🧵 Thread 🧵
First we have to define sex slavery. Cambridge Dictionary defines a sex slave as one who is forced to perform sexual acts. Does Islam allow this?
It is true that in the legal conception of the Sharia consent plays no formal role within licit sexual relationships, i.e., between spouses or a female slave and her male master.
Although consent was not a means by which a female slave/wife could make legal claims, women had legal protection from sexual abuse through the Islamic concept of harm.
The following cases show that judges took sexual harm against women very seriously.
What constitutes harm is determined by custom. Therefore in our society where forced sex is considered harmful the Sharia does not permit one to force their slave/wife into sexual intercourse.
Although consent is considered irrelevant in a sexual relationship between a male master and a female slave, forced sex is prohibited due to the inflicting of harm. Therefore sex slavery (forcing people to perform sexual acts) is haram.
