The greatest misconception about people who write Dick Grayson is that he's most interesting as a Bat-character, when that's the most sleep-inducingly insular and boring ass Dixon bullshit.

Dick Grayson is the most interesting as The First Legacy Hero Of The Grand DC Mythology.
Like, the *feeling* that needs to elicited, the sensation that must felt, when you lay eyes on him, is *not* him in a dark city, with neon lights, next to Batgirl, and Robin, as second tier dude.

It's the fucking sun behind him, him surrounded by the JL, he is The First Legacy.
The feeling you want to see when you lay eyes on Dick Grayson is something much closer to what it's like when people lay eyes on Captain America, The First Avenger.

He is the one after which they all emerged.

Dick is the one raised by Diana, Clark, Barry, Hal, Arthur, THE DCU!
Dick Grayson should be The Most Interesting Man In The DC Universe.

He played around with Rex Mason, he knows Plas, Doctor Fate likes him, old villains, reformed and otherwise, are fond of him.

When that dude shows up, it needs to be grand, big, fun, wild, not...Titans the show
*Imagine* what it's like to GROW UP with the DC Universe, to be raised *in* it, with all of its wide, wild, wondrous array of characters, all the strange, the bizarre, the creepy, even.

What kind of unique, interesting human would that make?

How would he be?

That's the hook!
But people wanna do 'Gotham' or Discount Gotham/Hells Kitchen (Bludhaven), shitty Batman or Daredevil plots, throw in Barbara Gordon, throw in Red Hood, some Batman villains, and just other unimaginative hack bullshit.

No ambition in the slightest.

Just...so fucking trite.
I think part of the problem is trying to *fit* Dick Grayson into the story models of other existing characters, and their templates, and thinking of him in their contexts.

'Dick Grayson is Batman if he...'

No, no, no. Stop right there.

Think bigger, and beyond that, be he is.
Dick Grayson fundamentally requires NEW models, templates and thinking than those.

Don't define him in relation to Batman, bc Batman grew up with Alfred, and like some random 'mentors'.

Dick Grayson grew up with Batman, and this is important, the entire DC Goddamn Multiverse.
Dick's thinking, approach, vision, scope, the ideas he has, where he gets them from, they should all be so much bigger, newer, more different.

This is the kid that sailed the stars, walked through realities, lived through The Silver Age, and knows The Metal Men.
'Batman'?

Batman is ONE role that Dick Grayson plays, amongst a PLETHROA, like a great role, much like Agent 37 is another.

That is to say, Dick Grayson should be a character that makes Batman look...small by comparison, that's the nature of the character.
