Lol someday we need to have a conversation about how even though thrifting is the darling of ethical fashion, it’s deeply unreliable for fat people
Listen: I am a thrift QUEEN. I’m also about a 14-16—so, on the smaller end of plus size. Vintage + thrift are an absolute roll of the dice every time for me, it’s not viable to suggest that fat people “just thrift!” their clothes every time
It sucks to be so deeply invisible in the conversation! Between what’s manufactured for us, preservation bias and smaller folks buying our sizes to cut or tailor down, like.....thrifted clothing that fits me is a TREASURE, not a constant.
With all due respect and acknowledgement of personal body variation, people who can wear straight sizes (and especially notably slender people!) just do not face the same struggle on this front and I’m not open for arguing this.
hey gang—thrifting (buying secondhand clothing) isn’t the same as buying VINTAGE. I’m not necessarily talking about clothing from the ‘50s. Also people in the past WERE NOT UNIFORMLY THIN OR PETITE, please learn about preservation bias 👇
