Huh i know i didnt just read some straights say it’s wrong for queer folks to get upset over fetishization of queer folks in media
Valid: “it’s wrong for western lgbt folks to criticize eastern lgbt folks’ indentities and relationships, irl or in media” | not valid: “it’s wrong for lgbt folks to criticize the heteros’ production consumption of lgbt content/characters in what is often a fetishizing manner”
Ngl coming into my own identity has been a pretty weird journey. My introduction to eastern queer media was to an area that’s hetero-owned. Which im ok w bc im all about coexistence, but (cont)
At the same time I also feel like I’m kinda entitled to feel squeamish when there’s almost a general idea in said area that equates queer actions/emotions as sexy/sinful/wrong/etc. just like everything else, BL is not and shouldn’t be immune to criticism.
Should probably stop there but idk, smth a little personal as an example?: i was raised in a SEAsian moslem household. While I am spiritual, I still have a problem ascribing to most believe system bc i have an internalized notion that I’m a sinner that doesn’t go away
even when I logically know that it’s not the case: The Entity wouldn’t have made me any way I’m not meant to be. (Sodom & Gomorrah was never about homosexuality; it was about pedophiles and gang rapists.)
anw I guess what I’m saying is that it hurts when I see people treat my sexuality as a 30 minute exciting sin-trip that they can make fun of after (“ahaha nonton homo bikin dosa mulu”) when it’s actually for me it’s a reality i could never walk away from

Tl;dr: bl as a genre and fujoshis as a community isn’t immune to criticism esp when it comes from those whose stories they depict/consume, but the good thing abt media and ppl both: historically, they’re always subject to bettering themselves
I read the original thread (which contained some things i agreed w & some things I feel need further discussion), but this thread is more of a response to other tweets i see sprouting on here after that one (which i cant even tag bc twitter refreshed)
