Nothing like a fresh batch of misogyny on the internet to deter my interest of commissioning back into the military
I don’t think the Madonna-Whore complex that Freud theorized almost half a century ago is anywhere as prevalent as it is in military culture.
It is a psychological complex wherein men who see women as either saintly Madonnas or debased prostitutes. Men with this complex desire a sexual partner who has been degraded (the whore) however they cannot desire the respected partner (the Madonna).
It is a cognitive binary scale wherein a man individually categorizes all women he comes into contact with if she is saintly (as in motherly) and if not then she is worthy of degradation.
What I find most disturbing about this theory in common day application is even though so many of Freud’s theories have been displaced as pseudoscience - that this theory is actually taught to male service members by their leaders in their first phases of training in the military
I’ve heard countless and countless stories from male service members/veterans how they were told by their leaders in basic training to stay away from females in the military. That they were essentially either unhygienic, a slut or out to ruin their careers.
