I’ve been rewatching The Walking Dead s4 (aka the best season) after a reread of the comics and I need to start a thread for all the feelings I have about this series
SPOILER WARNING but really who cares (this is an old season)

1. S4 is the best blend of comic material and original concepts which is why it’s the best season
The plague and the governor work really well together and make up for a lackluster S3 ending

2. The crew on the road is done really well because they lean into the grim setting. This show was about horror! The zombies are fucking NASTY. People are murdered in brutal fashion! If the show stuck to this it’d still be worth watching

3. Time for criticism! This show uses ninja zombies way to often. Nobody in the comics gets jumped by zombies at this point, but the show will still use a cheap jumpscare when it makes NO narrative sense and I hate it!

4. The show has such a strong style that they lose in later seasons. The governor flashback episode is amazing. Carl alone is iconic. Rick trapped under the bed is fantastically stressful. The prison battle is vicious. I miss the bold choices this show made

5. Hershel has a better death in the show than comics https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🤷‍♂️" title="Achselzuckender Mann" aria-label="Emoji: Achselzuckender Mann"> the downside is Tyrese gets a lame ass death next season so Hershel can take his comic death

6. I think maybe four characters introduced in this season are alive in the next season. Even for this show those are bad odds

I will probably come back to this thread as I finish the season and maybe will watch S5 (the last good season) to continue this rewatch
