It is very clear Trump thinks science & particularly the FDA is getting in his way.

And he’s acting on it. And it’s dangerous. 2/

The recent history of pushing the FDA on hydroxychloroquine to approve an EUA. The data turned out to be unwarranted ‘ they removed it. As of yesterday, he’s still protesting. 3/

The Administration interfered in all the wrong ways with the FDA in testing:
-First not pushing for faster testing approval to contain the virus
-Then pushing the approval of tests without data
-Now taking the requirement that labs even need to go to the FDA to get approval

But it is about to get worse. Tonight Trump will announce likely the EUA for convalescent plasma as a treatment.

It is clear from yesterday that the FDA was still not on board. Trump’s tell that he knows more than the scientists.

It is fairly widely known that the trials on CP weren’t done well. That Fauci and Francis Collins didn’t believe the data. That the results were cherry picked.

3 different scientists have told me the results of the observational study are unreliable & overrated. They don’t deny that there is likely to be marginal benefit.

But CP is already in broad use. The EUA doesn’t increase that. The FDA should opine when it learns something. It hasn’t.

Real clinical trials are underway in England.

So why the rush? The RNC begins tomorrow. That’s it.

What holds CP back are getting enough donations and data which demonstrates its success. That’s where FDA wants to focus.

There is really no longer separation from science and politics when science is manipulated by politicians this overtly.
