Anyone else’s parents tell you after the fact that they had a medical scare?

“Oh, we didn’t want to worry you. We died last week.”
So...this is common.

For the record, I would wait to tell my children I had died, too.
I’ve greatly enjoyed hearing from people today. Thank you all for sharing your stories, even though they dip into scary and sometimes heartbreaking territories. It seems nearly universal that our parents don’t want us to worry...and that’s a bit worrisome.
This thread contains both sadness and silliness. I didn't keep a running tally, but there are definitely way more mentions of chainsaws than expected.
Also, this may be a sweeping generalization, but ALL DADS HAVE SKIN CANCER APPARENTLY.
