The real nightmare scenario for Republicans in North Carolina:
- Democrats win control of the #NCGA w/Gov. Cooper
- immediately install an independent redistricting commission into law (and possibly state constitution) taking the whole matter out of the legislature #ncpol

- Democrats then pass a raft of voting rights legislation, including automatic registration and re-enfranchisement, enlarging the NC electorate in one fell swoop
- economy takes off again in 2021 as COVID vaccines arrive and schools reopen #ncpol

Because the @NCGOP relies on a shrinking pool of very right-wing white voters, breaking out and pivoting to appeal to the faster-growing segments of the NC electorate will be very, very challenging. Possible, but not without shifting the platform. #ncpol

Aggressive gerrymandering and widespread voter suppression works - but it isn't a permanent solution.

All these things do is delay the inevitable, particularly in a fast-growing state like ours. Change is coming. Let's hope it crashes over us this fall. #ncpol
