That news we’ve all been waiting for. You know, the news that will wake up our shared humanity, the news that will force us to confront what we’ve been ignoring for too, too long. The news that says time is up, stop fucking around and pay attention.
The news that means we can’t just go “oh shit, that’s a shame”, the news that, when you know it, makes you so uncomfortable and angry that you have to get out in the street, force those in power to stop what they’re doing.
The news that we knew was coming, that we pretended wasn’t too important because shopping, because holidays, because someone else would deal with it. The news that didn’t matter because immigrants, because Meghan, because Barnard Castle.
The news that the government never mentions, the newspapers don’t understand, people say isn’t real. Oh yeah, that news. The news that I’ll get to once I’ve done something else, the news that - oh wait, Trump said what?!
The news that makes us feel a bit guilty but not really, the news that frightens us so we don’t think about it. The news that might mean we have to change everything we do. The news that says capitalism has failed, the news that says Black Lives Matter.
The news that ruins our plans, burns down some homes and drowns the rest. The news that doing nothing, changing nothing will kill people, force people from their homes, destroy our food systems, poison our air and water. The news that makes our homes and possessions worthless.
That news. The news that makes Covid_19 seem small (it isn’t) that says Brexit is inconvenient (it will be disastrous) in comparison, the news that our lives will get harder, that our children need our help, real help not just sympathy.
The news that says the Democrats MUST win big in November, the news that says adaptation, mitigation, care for those we will never meet means everything for us all. The news that says Green New Deal for all. The news that Climate Justice is not just a #
Oh, yes, I think I’ve heard that news. The news that says no more. No more delay, no more excuses, no more, yes, in a minute.
