I go back to work in one week tomorrow. And I’m having some... feelings. As we start to get numbers in - family choice of online vs in person, we could have a fairly large number choosing online. #abed #abelg
Does this mean that in person classes will be smaller and physical distancing a bit easier to achieve? No. This means that classes sizes will stay the same and teachers will be shuffled around to other schools and to online. In Edmonton, this will be a massive staffing puzzle.
Teachers will find out next week that they are being asked to move schools, grades, subjects, or to go online when they would prefer to be in their classroom. We’ll all do it, but it’s adding a whole new layer of unbelievable stress.
If @jkenney and @AdrianaLaGrange had been willing to properly fund education in this province during a pandemic, then we could have hired as many temp contracts as possible for online and to fill in for medically compromised teachers who would need to be online.
We could have achieved smaller class sizes in September. Maybe not 15, but smaller. But once again this government has totally failed us.
