Contrary to what many think, it is not all doom & gloom in Nigeria- Eight (8) Investment Activities (& govt policies) that somewhat suggest that production/ industrialization is taking shape in Nigeria @toluogunlesi @OmoKakafiala @Dolarpo. See Below:
(1) Promasidor's Pact with Ekiti State's Ikun Dairy Farm- Govt's backward integration Policy required that, inter alia, companies producing dairy products source their milk locally. Hence, Promasidor, producers of Cowbell Milk, Loya Milk etc now in pact with Ekiti @AO1379
As at July 2020, the Ikun Dairy farm had commenced milk production with over 120 cows. At full capacity, can produce up to 10,000 litres of milk a day- Good opportunity to reduce dependence on imports in that sector to create jobs & related industries/ services. @ekitistategov
(2) Segilola Gold Project located in Osun State of Nigeria: Project is a high-grade gold project being developed in Osun State. It is set to be the first large-scale project of its type in Nigeria. Interestingly, @Bloomfield_LP & yours truly have provided advice on the Project.
As at Early August 2020, the first concrete had been poured by Norinco, the LSTK EPC Contractor, for the foundations for the plant. The Segilola process plant site, construction & procurement are progressing on schedule & on budget with first gold pour expected in Q2 2021.
(3) Hayat Kimya's Nigerian diaper and tissue plant: In June 2017, Turkish tissue manufacturer Hayat Kimya expanded its geographical presence with the inauguration of its $100m Nigerian diaper and tissue plant in Agbara, Nigeria.
Hayat Kimya has 14 production sites around the world and its Nigerian diaper and tissue factory is currently ranked as the most modern Hayat plant globally. This is the company’s first major investment in sub-Saharan Africa.
(4) LPG Cylinder Manufacturing- In alignment with the LPG penetration policy of govt, Techno oil has built first fully indigenous automated LPG cylinder manufacturing plant in Lagos, Nigeria. Plant has capacity to produce over 5 million high quality LPG cylinders annually.
Expectation is that LPG cylinders would no more be imported into Nigeria. Rather, the project will help deepen the penetration of LPG usage by households and others and will promote environmental friendliness etc.
(5) Plywood Factory- In 2019, Weewood Limited, completed its multibillion Plywood/HDF factory at the Ore Industrial Park in Ondo State. A power project is also been considered for the entire Park. The company produces high-quality fibre board plywood.
They plywood is already in high demand in local markets across and outside Ondo state. Waste wood is processed into high and low density fibre. Forex is expected to be generated by the State, through the export of the product.
(6) GZI and Aluminium Can Manufacturing- In a not too distant past, Nigeria imported all cans used for drinks. GZ Industries (GZI) was founded in 2006 & commissioned West Africa's first can manufacturing plant in Agbara, Nigeria in 2010. Now cans are manufactured in-country.
(7) Car Manufacturing & Assembly in Nigeria by IVM, Monaplex Industries Nigeria Limited, Perfection Motor Co & Others.
(8) The Dangote Refinery- Dangote refinery is a 650,000 bpd integrated refinery & petrochemical project under construction in the Lekki Free Zone near Lagos, Nigeria. It is expected to be the Africa’s biggest oil refinery & world’s biggest single-train facility, upon completion.
The Dangote Group, is developing the project with an estimated investment of $12bn. The refinery is on track to be operational in early 2021 despite the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
A lot more still needs to be done, in terms of sheer number and scale but it really isn't all doom and gloom in Africa's most populous nation. @toluogunlesi @tobiBowale @DrJoeAbah
