Cowboys practice has ended, so tweeting is now permitted. Some news and observations from Day 7 of camp practice.
Cowboys signed Ha Ha Clinton-Dix in March to be their starting safety. Based on camp so far, that won’t be the case. Darian Thompson more impressive so far. This competition will continue to unfold. Clinton-Dix signed a one-year contract with $2.25M fully guaranteed.
It will be interesting to monitor at what point the Cowboys do more cross-training with their deep cornerbacks at the safety position. Daryl Worley and rookie Reggie Robinson are a couple names to watch. Not a stretch to say Jeff Heath’s absence is felt.
As Earl Thomas’ time with the Ravens concludes, there is a chance another veteran could be added to mix here in Frisco. Thomas? Stay tuned. Either way, with multiple scenarios in play, it seems increasingly unlikely Ha Ha Clinton-Dix is the Week 1 starter vs. Rams.
Cowboys introduced a “tempo period” in practice. Eight plays in rapid succession with each of first-, second- and third-team groups. S Xavier Woods a standout, collapsing well in coverage. Broke up two passes intended for TE Dalton Schultz in a three-play span.
Cowboys remain short on offensive tackles. LT Tyron Smith, RT La’el Collins and swing tackle Cam Fleming were spectators. Reserve OT Mitch Hyatt participated in individual drills but exited midway through them.
DE Bradlee Anae recorded a would-be sack (“would-be” because play continues) on the same rep that LB Francis Bernard broke up a pass. Both rookies have produced standout moments. On very next rep, Anae recorded another would-be sack. Disruptive day for him.
Amari Cooper. Michael Gallup. CeeDee Lamb. We all know the names of the Cowboys’ top three wide receivers. But over past week, Cedrick Wilson has essentially cemented his standing as No. 4. A time should come when he’s called upon in 2020. He looks ready to answer it.
After practice, Cowboys WR Amari Cooper shared his impressions of Cedrick Wilson. "He looks fast. He looks good. He looks detailed in his route running, and he looks like he's ready to take that next step."
As expected, today was the day Cowboys DE Everson Griffen’s participation in practice grew to include team drills. His first opportunity to corral RB Ezekiel Elliott. Photo via @vernonbryant.
