Good morning! I’m out on Hastings Street with the one, the only, @iamlorenzorulli, for a sidewalk chalk protest hosted a few of Peduto’s neighbors.
Since the city seems to enjoy washing off #BlackLivesMatter chalk art as quickly as possible, I’m gonna share some photos and videos of what’s here.
Three people who live on this block organized the event. Listen to the way they welcome protesters to their block and affirm the message of activists.
It was less than 48 hours ago that Lorenzo was arrested around the corner with more than 15 police vehicles for disorderly conduct and summary charges.
I had a wonderful conversation with some of the people that organized this event. Some of these people are parents, and have tackled conversations of racial injustice and aggressive policing with their young children as a result of the police actions on their block.
Here’s some of the art adorning @billpeduto’s street. The blinds on his house are closed.
Some of Peduto’s neighbors said many of their peers - parents of children under 10 - want to participate but can’t bring their kids out of fear of police violence. Organizers hope this offers an opportunity for a family-friendly space to support the movement.
When Lorenzo saw this picture, he said it looks like everyone is holding onto the rainbow. https://twitter.com/pghlgbtq/status/1297553711863083010
Sidewalk chalk is nothing new for Lorenzo. https://twitter.com/pghlgbtq/status/1297553705013829632
