If I see one more “you’re not a Christian if you vote for” post...

It is anti-Gospel.
Before you think I’m speaking about a particular party, I need to say I’ve seen this on both sides of the aisle. That, in itself, is a post for another day—that both parties believe themselves to be exclusively aligned with godliness, and that the other is concentrated evil.
Who knew that everyone’s faith would be taking a pass/fail test in the form of Trump vs. Biden? How could one’s eternity hang in the balance, depending on how they cast their vote in November of 2020?

If this is true, the Cross of Jesus Christ was flimsy and of no effect.
Without question, true followers of Christ will bear fruit that proves the same. But “who you vote for” between imperfect candidates, in a hobbling-along system of politics, in a flawed balloting process is simply not the fruit the Bible is talking about. And thank God it’s not.
How dare we treat the Kingdom of God as our own country club, denying membership to those who don’t accept specific views? And how dare we use shame (one of the very things Christ died to free us from) to persuade people to vote a certain way?
“You’re not a Christian if...”

That’s the Gospel message? That’s what we were called to proclaim to a dying world? That was God’s great strategy to snatch souls from the unrelenting clutch of death and hell?
“You’re not a Christian if...”

It’s sounds more like the start of a really bad joke, not the impenetrable Truth of hope, peace and love by which we are called to live.
It’s no good, guys. It doesn’t hold up.

That’s not the Gospel and I won’t be sharing that. To anyone who has heard that message and been made to believe that’s who we are, I apologize. That is NOT who we are, and that is NOT who Jesus is.
We’ve all got to do this better. I think would do well to start by following Paul’s example in 1 Corinthians—let’s preach Christ, and Him crucified.

Anything else is your agenda, not His.
