I have some very light mechanics for disability (specifically the incorporation of mobility aids, prostheses and medication) for the system I am working on. While the response I have received from disabled players has been positive, as an abled person, I can’t help but wonder ->
If I am going about this the right way. I want this system to be inclusive and started off thinking that meant including mechanics for disability. That said, what I have written sees the mobility aids et al as equipment, rather than something that is a part of the character ->
& that functionally renders them equal to any abled character. I worry this is yet more baggage from the war-game-ness of dnd, which I am still working on leaving behind. With a system that is more narrative heavy than crunchy, do I need dedicated mechanics for disability? ->
Whatever the case and whichever path I take, I will continue to consult with disabled friends and players and definitely hire a disability consultant/sensitivity reader once I have enough playtests under my belt. ->
I apologise for the potentially rambling nature of this thread. If I have worded or expressed anything in an insensitive manner it was not my intention and please let me know.
